Home News & Events Holistic Childcare & Education included in Scotland’s Excel Framework
Our sites in Dumfries & Galloway have been included in the Scotland Excel Framework, offering quality residential care and education for children and young people with additional support needs.
This significant achievement means that all 32 Scottish Local Authorities can now place children and young people at Maben House which caters for children and young people aged 5-15, and Closeburn House that supports young people aged 10-19.
Both Maben House and Closeburn House are integrated homes and schools who support children and young people with a range of additional support needs, offering an individualised, Trauma-informed approach for young people.
Based on the outskirts of Lochmaben, Maben House offers a brand-new, purpose-built school with small class sizes and the opportunity to explore the outdoors, given our rural location. We provide lots of one-to-one support that can be particularly beneficial for young people demonstrating distressing behaviours, poor mental health and other barriers to their learning.
Situated on the edge of Closeburn village, Closeburn House offers residential and education places for young people aged 10-19. We provide a structured yet nurturing environment for young people with staff who go the extra mile to ensure each young person can be the best that they can be. Our Trauma-Informed approach has led to successful outcomes for many young people who have experienced significant trauma, including CSE, abuse and neglect, in addition to poor mental health. The on-site school aims to provide young people with rich experiences that meet their complex additional support needs and comply fully with the Curriculum for Excellence and GIRFEC. We offer a variety of SQA qualifications, including National 4’s and 5’s, as well as wider achievements such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The Excel Framework streamlines the placing process for Local Authorities in Scotland, providing a range of service providers capable of tailoring services to the individual needs of children and young people. With a straightforward Individual Placement Agreement (IPA) and fixed pricing, Local Authorities can ensure value for money.
For enquiries about placements at Falkland House School, please our Relations and Admissions Manager, Iain Owens, at iain.owens@ofgl.co.uk or on 07795 153159.
We look forward to welcoming more girls and boys to our school!
