Autism Accreditation

We are proud to have a National Autism Accreditation

The Autism Accreditation Programme is UK’s only autism specific quality assurance programme of support and development for all those providing services to autistic people. Achieving accreditation proves that an organisation is committed to understanding autism and setting the standard for autism practice.

We hold the accreditation at Closeburn House and are working towards this for Maben House.

Autism Accreditation is an internationally recognised quality standard, and with 30 years of accreditation expertise, we are the longest running programme in the world.

What are the benefits?
The benefits of being recognised through the Autism Accreditation Programme include:

  • a more autism-focused service
  • increased expertise in supporting autistic people
  • foundation for informing strategic planning
  • better outcomes for the autistic people you support/work with
  • reassurance for families/carers
  • a more personalised service
  • increase in referrals to the service/school
  • decrease in vacancies for placements
  • evidence for commissioning bodies
  • ongoing development for the service/school

Here’s what the assessment said about about Closeburn House School:

“

The skill and sensitivity of staff in supporting young people’s needs, enabling them to be ready to learn was evident throughout the assessment. For example, meetings were held with pupils to discuss issues that had arisen during the course of the school day. This enabled pupils to voice their opinions and agreements to be made about future conduct. In other examples staff demonstrated an awareness of when to challenge pupils to do more and when to allow the pupil time to self-regulate and disengage form an activity if needed.

”

“

Young people attending Closeburn House School are offered a range of experiences which provide them with personalised opportunities for new learning, consolidation and challenge

”

“

There is a particular emphasis on developing social skills and supporting pupils to become independent learners. Learning is motivated by individual interests and the day is carefully structured to allow for minimum disruption by transitions, with a supportive timetable which has an emphasis on regular routines

”

“

Emotional well-being is at the core of all aspects of provision at Closeburn House School. It is one of the foundations upon which success is achieved for the pupil cohort. It forms an integral part of the school vision, values and aims and is referenced throughout school documentation and training materials….pupils present as happy, relaxed and eager to interact and be involved in learning

”

“

The whole staff team demonstrate a desire and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for their autistic pupils. This is marked by an eagerness to learn new approaches and a willingness to critically evaluate the strategies already in use within the setting
