Autism Accreditation

The skill and sensitivity of staff in supporting young people’s needs, enabling them to be ready to learn was evident throughout the assessment. For example, meetings were held with pupils to discuss issues that had arisen during the course of the school day. This enabled pupils to voice their opinions and agreements to be made about future conduct. In other examples staff demonstrated an awareness of when to challenge pupils to do more and when to allow the pupil time to self-regulate and disengage form an activity if needed.

There is a particular emphasis on developing social skills and supporting pupils to become independent learners. Learning is motivated by individual interests and the day is carefully structured to allow for minimum disruption by transitions, with a supportive timetable which has an emphasis on regular routines

Emotional well-being is at the core of all aspects of provision at Closeburn House School. It is one of the foundations upon which success is achieved for the pupil cohort. It forms an integral part of the school vision, values and aims and is referenced throughout school documentation and training materials….pupils present as happy, relaxed and eager to interact and be involved in learning
