Home News & Events Second place in Sumdog maths competition
Recently the online maths site Sumdog ran a competition for the whole of Dumfries and Galloway with 134 classes entered from 55 schools.
We at Closeburn House entered our school into the competition with our eager and motivated cohort of 10 pupils.
Sumdog is an online adaptive response program for pupils of all ages. When students log in, they can view assignments that the teacher has given them and can access games. When pupils first play, Sumdog uses a diagnostic assessment to determine what level of questions are appropriate for each pupil. If pupils feel the problems are too easy or too hard at first, they are encouraged to stick with it; as pupils answer questions correctly or incorrectly, the difficulty increases or decreases until students reach their “just right” level.
Using their well practiced and refined maths skills, our pupils at Closeburn House were able to out perform the competition and secure 2nd place! It was a tough fight for the top spot and our pupils are over the moon with the results. The entire school had an incredible buzz around it as we progressed higher and higher through the ranks each day.
To celebrate our pupils big success they were awarded with a box of delicious Krispy Kreme Donuts to share during their Friday film hour which they were delighted with!
Well done Closeburn House school!!
